HOBOKEN -- A spokesperson for Hoboken resident and activist Tim Occhipinti said he will formally announce his candidacy for the 4th Ward special election in Hoboken at Northern South at 557 First St in Hoboken on June 17.
Occhipinti will challenge incumbent Councilman Michael Lenz, who was appointed to the seat late last year after Dawn Zimmer became mayor last November.
The election will not be held until the first week in November, but is expected to be contentious, as there are no other council races going on in Hoboken in November. However, the winner will have to run for the seat again the following May, as all six ward council seats will be up the following May.
Occhipinti recently published a letter in the Reporter saying that current Mayor Dawn Zimmer had turned her back on Democratic values for supporting Gov. Chris Christie's recent proposals.
Occhipinti has run for council before. Last year, he founded a group called Hoboken Volunteers, which brings together local people to volunteer for various Hoboken agencies and non-profits.

Yes. Anyone read the Grafix Avenger? Sometimes the animosity used to defend Zimmer gets scary. It's just worth thinking about.
I respect the mayor very much, but let's not throw the experience card into this -- what credentials did Dawn Zimmer have when she ran for the 4th Ward seat? She had barely been in town 4 years at that time and had a desire to have her ideas know, which is exactly where Mr. Occhipinti seems to be.
Mr. Lenz has worked the Hoboken system for years and will continue to ignore the 4th ward and use his 'buisness knowledge' as a campaign call -- i wonder, if that knowledge is a case study on how to get fired from a municipal position and collect two hefty court settlements?
The hate on this board for anyone that runs against the administration is frightening! You truly are the new machine in town...
Could it be his endorsement of Cammrano, his reading of a prepared statement asking the Council to allow Petey absolute power over zoning board appointments ( Like Pete promised Sol Dweck) or his two more recent council political performances where he attacked Mike Lenz over some BS.
Or his sudden "our Home" stance when it comes to the ward he un-bagged his carpet in not so long ago
I am willing to wager that Beth Mason or maybe just her husband will endorse Occhipinti.
If we have learned anything at this point Elizabeth Mason and her people have a pathological fear of Mike Lenz.

Occhipinti will be funded by the same developer interests as were Chris Campos and Peter Cammarano. Watch for Ursa Tarragon, who has already spent well over $200,000 trying to stop Zimmer from changing how Hoboken does development, to secretly contribute a bundle to Occhipinti.
Occipinti, Michael Novak and Jason Mauer are all just ponies in the Maurice Fitzgibbons stable, with Maurice desperately trying to find the next Peter Cammarano to bring Maurice back from the dead one more time.
Maurice thinks you can win with any young white guy in nice clothes, by exploiting old Hoboken's fear of change, by scaring HHA residents with divisive false rhetoric reinforced with election day cash, and by fooling new Hoboken with outright lies.
Remember "I've got the seniors, Italians and HHA vote locked up - I'd get 90% of that vote even if I got indicted?" Peter Cammarano said it but the concept originated with Maurice Fitzgibbons who still thinks that, together with conning some gullible well meaning yuppies, is the formula that can rescue him from his current state of irrelevence.
